State Travel Power Point Presentation

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to work for the state bureau of travel?  HereÕs your chance to get a taste for the business.  It will be your job to ÒsellÓ your state and entice people to visit your state on their next vacation.

Instructions:

1)   Use any marketing strategies you want to use.  Think about how you will advertise your state.  Consider WHO would want to travel to your state, and HOW you can appeal to their intelligence, emotions, special interests, and wallets to make them want to visit your state.

2)  You must use and document at least 2 books.  The rest of your information can be from interviews, Websites, brochures, maps etc.  All information must be cited!

3) We will have some research time in class but the majority of your research will be done at home.  You will need to keep all state articles, maps etc. in the envelope that was given to you.  We will be researching using index cards; therefore, you should use your index card organizer.

4) We will review the format for note taking in class.  Each card must have a source listed!

5) Design at least 7 PowerPoint slides.  The first should be an introduction slide listing the name of your state and an outline of what you are going to talk about.  The second through seventh slides may include, but are not limited to, the following information: climate, tourist attractions, landmarks, and culture.  You may also include information on sports teams, famous people, interesting facts and local foods.  You must include information on geographical landmarks and government.  Please only have ONE topic per slide.  Remember, please only have the most important points on your slides.  You want to grab the readersÕ attention.  You may view a sample PowerPoint presentation on our class Website under ÒStudent Links.Ó

6)  You must have a typed list of sources used for this presentation.  The sources must be in proper MLA format.  You may use ÒCitation MachineÓ to generate your works cited (located on class Website).

7) You must also bring in at least two of the following to  supplement your presentation: sample prepared meal from your state, a commercial, handmade brochures, an artistic piece or model that represents an important landmark, handouts with important information, or a poster with state information such as a flag and/or motto.

8) We will have a ÒState Travel FairÓ on _________________.  Parents and friends will be invited to our classroom to learn about the represented states.  They will decide which states they would like to Òvisit.Ó  PowerPoint presentations will begin immediately after the State Travel Fair.   On this day, you will dress as a representative from your state or a travel agent.  We will discuss some ideas in class.

9) Sketch sample slides on this sheet.
